Last Saturday, on 25th of February, Samuel Alonso Pérez and Diego Garea Rey were the winners of the first edition of the competition organized by Imatia and the Faculty of Informatics of A Coruña (FIC). These two students at the University of A Coruña presented a searching system for sports careers and positively surprised the jury, which consisted of teachers and representatives of Imatia. This project about a currently booming activity left a very good impression about the innovative capabilities of these young students of Information Retrieval and Web Semantics.
The level of all projects was very high which demonstrated the great dedication of the students towards this contest despite it being only the first edition. A total of seven projects were presented, related to diverse topics among which gourmet recipes, opinions about restaurants and delays at airports. Among all projects, a deserved honorable mention goes to the movie finder created by Carlos Rodríguez Corral and David Lema Lema.
It was a pleasant morning on the FIC of the University of A Coruña, which was concluded by the handing out of diplomas for the above mentioned projects, by Fernando Vázquez, General Director of Imatia. The winners Samuel Alonso and Diego Garea were awarded a scholarship which will allow them to do a paid internship at Imatia for at least 3 months, plus a gift card worth 500 euros.
It was a fantastic experience which we hope to repeat during future editions. Finally, from Imatia we would like to thank all participants for the effort as well as the FIC for its involvement, which was done mainly through the responsible contribution of Javier Parapar López.
Here are some pictures of the day on which the projects were presented at this first I’m Innovation Challenge:
