Innovation in maritime safety driven by Galician companies

The SEALAB laboratory will incorporate new sensorics based on the use of Essential Enabling Technologies for the determination of priority substances, measurement of auxiliary physicochemical parameters and automated sampling.

The following technical objectives are proposed:

To advance in the procedures for in situ monitoring of priority substances through the implementation of a nanosensor to measure by electrochemical reading concentrations of some priority substances in inland waters.
To develop a portable laboratory that integrates a multisensor system for in situ measurements of priority substances and other physicochemical parameters, as well as a water sampling system to be integrated into unmanned vessels (USV).
Optimize the use of unmanned vessels (USVs) for coastal and transitional water quality monitoring, improving propulsion, positioning, communications and navigation to meet the specific needs of the service and ensure the representativeness of the samples.
Facilitate the employability of the service to the end user through the implementation of software applications that facilitate the management of the robotic missions and the visualization and interpretation of the data collected.

Financing

SEALAB belongs to the Conecta Peme 2018 Program, grants for the realization of collaborative RD&I projects between companies in strategic areas for Galicia. It is funded by the Axencia Galega de Innovación (GAIN) of the Xunta de Galicia, Consellería de Economía, Emprego e Industria de la Xunta de Galicia, and European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), under the ERDF Operational Program 2014-2020 within the main objective of the operation “Promote technological development, innovation and quality research” (O.T.1) with European Structural and Investment Funds. With a total budget of 1,056,297.97 €.
